(NaturalNews) For muscle heads, diets high in protein may be just what the doctor ordered, but a growing bicep may come with a cost: a shrinking brain.
According to a recent study published in the journal Molecular Neurodegeneration, when compared to three other diets, high protein diets were the ones that caused the most significant drop-off in brain weight.
Alzheimer's disease researchers are well aware of the wealth of studies linking diet to brain health. The Mediterranean diet, for example, is touted as one of the best diets to follow not only for great physical health, but for great mental health as well, according to findings published in a December 2006 issue of the Archives of Neurology.
With this in mind, researchers put four specific diets to the test to see how, or if, they contributed to the formation of amyloid proteins in the brain. Amyloid protein formation is one of the precursors to Alzheimer's disease. Read more...

A brief Introduction to Kinesiology
In general, kinesiology detects disbalances existing in the energetic field and re-harmonizes them. Kinesiology is characterized by a respectful co-operation and mutual elaboration of objectives on a partnership basis. It is also characterized by the basic idea that the key to resolving an imbalance and the potential for changing are to be found in the clients themselves.
Emotional problems or physical discomfort will reveal themselves in an energetic imbalance. In order to gain access to this imbalance, kinesiology deploys the muscle test which connects us to the subconscious.
The muscle test enables us to gain information, deriving from the client’s energetic system, on stressors as well as on how these may be reduced or triggered. When performing the muscle test, any given one of the client’s muscles is caused to contract and subsequently pressed by the therapist without applying much power. Muscles which are sufficiently supplied with energy can easily withstand the pressure applied in a muscle test. However, tested muscles that slacken and cannot be held in position indicate the response of a stressor which causes an imbalance of the energetic system. Read more...

Natural substance in breast milk destroys cancer cells
Breast milk is documented to be the best food possible for infants and breastfeeding is known to have enormous health benefits for moms, too. It turns out, however, that breast milk has even more amazing properties. Swedish researchers have found that it contains a compound that kills cancer cells in humans. The substance, dubbed HAMLET (which stands for Human Alpha-lactalbumin Made LEthal to Tumor cells), is comprised of a protein and a fatty acid. Although found naturally in breast milk, scientists are not sure if HAMLET develops spontaneously or if it requires interaction with the acidic digestive system of a newborn.
HAMLET was first discovered by chance several years ago by researchers who were investigating the antibacterial properties of breast milk. Scientists soon began testing it on cancer cells and the findings were nothing short of astounding.
For example, studies in the lab showed that HAMLET was able to kill 40 different types of cancer cells. What's more, in animal studies the natural substance was found to be effective in killing one of the most deadly types of brain cancers -- glioblastoma. Read more...

Teenage girls live on junk food
Teenage girls eat substantially worse than teenage boys and older women, according to the preliminary results of the United Kingdom's National Diet and Nutrition Survey.
The average teenage girl consumed 54 grams (1.9 ounces) of French fries or other fried potatoes per day, in comparison with only 40 grams per day among women between the ages of 19 and 65. Teenage girls consumed 14 grams of potato chips and other salty snacks each day, 22 grams of chocolate and candy, and 37 grams of cakes and cookies. In contrast, adult women consumed only 6 grams, 10 grams and 27 grams of these foods per day, respectively.
Teenage girls were getting an average of 13.1 percent of their daily calories from saturated fat, higher than both the percentage in boys (12.7 percent) and the recommended daily maximum (11 percent). When it came to sugar consumption, girls performed marginally better than boys but were still above the daily maximum, acquiring 15 percent of their daily calories from sugar. Read more...

Sexual, Urinary Health Boosted in Exercisers, Nonsmokers
(HealthDay News) -- For people who need more reasons to start exercising and steer clear of smoking, new research finds that moving around and rejecting cigarettes can improve urinary health in women and sexual health in men.
In one study, researchers surveyed more than 2,000 Finnish women, aged 18 to 79, about smoking and their urinary health.
After the investigators adjusted the statistics so they wouldn't be thrown off by factors such as medication use and lifestyle, the researchers found that former and current smokers were 1.8 to 2.7 times more likely to need to urinate urgently, and 1.7 to 3.0 times more likely to need to urinate more frequently compared to those who never smoked.
In another study, researchers examined surveys taken by 178 healthy men at a VA medical center in North Carolina.Male penis enhancement

Doctors are addicted to "every drug under the sun"
Doctors suffer in secret from a wide range of physical and mental health problems including addiction, according to the findings of a new health program in the United Kingdom.
The Practitioner Health Program (PHP) was set up in response to concerns that health professionals were self-medicating or avoiding treatment for serious health problems, out of fear of being stigmatized if they visited a colleague for help. The program provides confidential health services, and so far has been judged a success.
"From the number of patients accessing PHP during its first year, it's clear there is a need for this highly specialized service," said England's chief medical officer, Sir Liam Donaldson.
"This has been a real eye-opener," said PHP medical director Clare Gerada. "I thought at first we'd see a bit of stress and burn-out. But it soon became apparent how troubled some of these doctors and dentists were. I've been surprised at the degree and extent of substance misuse that we've seen."
Of 184 patients treated in the program's first year, 36 percent suffered from some form of addiction. Read more...
