The following article originally ran on NaturalNews in 2008 but was shifted over to Counterthink.com which ultimately got replaced with political cartoons. In light of today's sudden attention on the food bubble and the possible collapse of human civilization as described by author and environmentalist Lester Brown, it seems highly relevant to bring this article back.
After all, we were talking about the coming food bubble five years ago, long before most people were aware any such thing existed. In this article, in fact, you'll see that in 2008 I wrote, "...humanity is just one crop season away from mass starvation."
Today, in 2011, a news headline about Lester Brown's book says, "World is 'one poor harvest' from chaos, new book warns." (http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.999426eed38d24123132435f3d303867.31&show_article=1)
Sound familiar? What Lester Brown's book is warning about in 2011 is the same thing NaturalNews has been writing about for several years, even before 2008. Here's the full article I wrote in 2008, with a few edits and updates. It seems like mainstream consciousness if finally ready to accept this idea -- an idea that seemed "radical" just three years ago. Suddenly, it now seems obvious. Read more...

Breast Cancer is Caused by Dietary and Metabolic Acid
Several months ago articles appeared around the world announcing the results of a seven-year diet experiment, known as The Women's Healthy Eating and Living (WHEL) Randomized Trial, of more than 3,000 women with breast cancer.
This governmental funded study (kicked off by a $5 million grant from the late Wal-Mart heir John Walton with an additional $30 million in support from the National Cancer Institute) found no benefit from recommending that women with breast cancer eat more fruits and vegetables, and less fat.
The chances of fewer recurrences and better survival were not seen in women previously treated for breast cancer after changes in diet achieved during this study. As a result of this paper, originally published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, more people now may believe healthier eating will not help women prevent or treat breast cancer.
There are many things wrong with this study such as the following:
1) What fruits were they eating? Were they eating less or more acidic fruits that can lead to acidic breasts or more acid in the fatty tissues? Some of these acidic fruits are apple, orange, pear, banana, pineapple and all other high sugar fruits. Remember, cancer is not a cell it is an acidic liquid that spoils cells. Read more...

Pomegranates provide amazing protection against tissue damage, inflammation
The health benefits of eating pomegranates are numerous, and a new study presented at the American Society of Nephrology's 43rd Annual Meeting and Scientific Exposition in Denver, Colo., has discovered yet another. According to the report, the potent antioxidant profile of pomegranates helps to reduce inflammation, prevent damage caused by oxidative stress, and minimize complications associated with kidney disease and its conventional treatment protocols.

Birch bark nutrient prevents obesity, diabetes and high cholesterol
Researchers from the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (SIBC) in China have identified a powerful compound in birch bark called betulin that helps lower cholesterol and prevent both diabetes and obesity. And betulin works particularly better than the statin drug lovastatin at lowering cholesterol, except without the harmful side effects.
Dr. Bao-Liang Song and his colleagues from SIBC tested the effects of betulin and found that it specifically targets the genes responsible for making harmful blood fats like triglycerides by effectively lowering their activity and protecting against disease. And since the compound is "abundant in birch bark," it has the potential to revolutionize the way blood fat levels are managed.
Concerning cholesterol levels, betulin was shown to lower lipid levels more effectively than lovastatin. And insulin-wise, betulin helps keep artery walls free and clear of build-ups and blockages, also known as atherosclerosis. Read more...

Protein heart tests: A lifesaver or overhyped?
Dianne has always worried about her heart health -- both her parents died of heart attacks -- yet her cholesterol has never been off the charts. All the same, the 59-year-old schoolteacher (who asked that her last name not be used) has been taking a cholesterol-lowering statin for more than two years.
Why? In 2007, Dianne's cardiologist discovered that her blood contained abnormally high levels of C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation. Dr. Yazid Fadl, a cardiologist at Clarian Cardiovascular, in Indianapolis, considered Dianne's high CRP reason enough to prescribe a statin. "If her CRP were low, I would have advocated weight loss and exercise," he says.
Dianne may soon have lots of company. More doctors are testing and treating CRP, particularly since the Food and Drug Administration gave the green light in February to use one statin, Crestor, to treat patients with normal cholesterol but elevated CRP. Read more...

Teeth should be thankful for cranberry
U. ROCHESTER (US) — You won’t be the only one feasting this Thanksgiving. Harmful bacteria await their own holiday meal, launching one of the biggest assaults of the year on your teeth.
Thankfully, a few foods common at the holiday dinner table—like cranberries and wine—offer new leads in the effort to stop tooth decay.
The Thanksgiving Day battle for oral health hinges on microbes like Streptococcus mutans. Most cookies, pies, and the like contain mountains of sugar, but it’s not the sugar itself that causes tooth decay. Rather, S. mutans and other bacteria in our mouths—billions of individual microbes all waiting for their next snack—feast on the sugars, stick on your teeth, and then churn out acid that eats away at tooth enamel.
