Is the Fat Acceptance Movement Bad for Our Health?
Although most people agree that promoting super-skinny models as the feminine (or masculine) ideal isn’t healthy, will the opposite—accepting that being overweight is fine—undermine the progress being made toward heart health?
Deb Lemire has always been “short and square,” a figure she inherited from her grandmother and passed on to her child. So when Lemire took her daughter in for a wellness visit and the well-meaning pediatrician pulled her aside to talk about her daughter’s weight, the 47-year-old burst into tears “because I was the 10-year-old being told I was overweight.”
She took her daughter to a nutritionist, who said her dietary habits were good. So Lemire decided not to push the issue. “I have spent my whole entire life dieting and feeling like my worth was attached to my weight,” says Lemire. “I wasn’t going to tell her she has to change who she is. But we’re going to encourage healthy behaviors [and] not worry about translating that into a size that’s ‘OK.’ That message is not going to come from me—she’ll get that enough from other people. Tips for Asthma patients -Rescue diet
Tips for Asthma patients -Rescue diet
Ayurveda classifies asthma as an acutely kaphic disorder brought on by excessive mucous and phlegm.
The remedy: Honey, the best anti-kaphic elixir known to man. Packed with subtle alcohols and ethereal oils, honey drains mucous from the respiratory passages and eliminates it from the lungs.
The ancient vaids actually believed that when an asthmatic patient so much as inhales the air above a pot of honey, his breathing becomes easier.
Apart from this rather romantic tip, avoid mucous forming foods like rice, wheat, yoghurt , bananas, nuts and all dairy products, especially ice cream and cheese. Read more...

Breast cancer breakthrough: vitamin D in combination with sun
Breast cancer breakthrough: vitamin D in combination with sun exposure is key to prevention
As DrEddyClinic has covered for years, researchers have found a profound link between breast cancer and low levels of vitamin D (http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=6010, http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=22843). Women with the lowest blood levels have the highest breast cancer risk and those dying of metastasized disease are the most vitamin D deficient of all. Scientists have theorized vitamin D has anti-cancer properties that influence cell growth, healthy cell differentiation and programmed cell death (apoptosis).
However, when researchers have looked only at levels of dietary vitamin D intake and breast cancer risk, their findings have been sometimes inconsistent. So what is going on here? Does vitamin D definitely have the potential to prevent breast malignancies or not? A large and potentially groundbreaking French study appears to have the answer: the key to breast cancer prevention may well be taking higher amounts of vitamin D through diet and supplements combined with regular, direct sunshine exposure. Optimizing Omega-3 Intake May Avert Kidney Cancer
Omega-3 fatty acids may help prevent kidney cancer in women, says a newly published study in the Journal of the American Medical Association.1 While omega-3 consumption is correlated with decreased risks of heart disease, depression, and breast cancer, its role in kidney cancer has previously been unknown.2-4
Scientists followed a group of 61,433 women, aged 40-76, over an average of 15 years. The women completed a food-frequency questionnaire at baseline and at the study's end. Regular consumption of omega-3-rich fatty fishโ€”such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, and herring was associated with a significantly decreased risk of developing renal cell carcinoma, or kidney cancer. By contrast, consumption of lean fish (low in omega-3 fatty acids) did not protect the women against developing kidney cancer. Read more...
